NCEL to Export Rice to Tanzania, Djibouti, Guinea Bissau

The Indian government has authorized the export of 30,000 tonnes of non-basmati white rice to Tanzania and 80,000 tonnes of broken rice to Djibouti and Guinea Bissau through National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL). This decision, detailed in a Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) notification, comes despite the ban on exports of non-basmati white rice imposed since July 20, 2023, to enhance domestic supply. However, exceptions are made for specific countries upon request to address their food security needs. Of the total allowed broken rice exports, 30,000 tonnes are designated for Djibouti and 50,000 tonnes for Guinea Bissau. This initiative follows previous permissions for rice exports to several countries including Nepal, Cameroon, Cote D’Ivoire, Guinea, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Seychelles. NCEL, the exporting agency, is a multi-state cooperative society backed by major cooperative societies such as the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF/AMUL), Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Ltd (IFFCO), Krishak Bharati Cooperative Ltd (KRIBHCO), and the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED).
