Retailers and wholesalers in markets around Chattogram are selling soybean oil above the government-fixed retail prices, with bottled soybean oil being sold at Tk 170 per litre instead of the fixed Tk 163, and a five-litre bottle at Tk 845 instead of Tk 800. Loose soybean oil is being sold at Tk 158 per litre in retail markets, despite a new price set at Tk 149 per litre. The increase in prices is attributed to a supply shortage, even as demand rises ahead of Ramadan. Wholesalers have reported difficulties in collecting oil from mill gates due to supply shortages. Retailers have noted that new bottles at the revised rates have not yet entered the market, and emphasized the need for government monitoring to ensure supply and price stability. The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection conducted a drive at two mills in Chattogram, with assurances from owners and management that the new prices would be effective within two days.
