Health Canada Grants Approval for Remilk's BLG Protein, Boosting Alternative Protein Market

Israel's animal-free dairy company, Remilk, has been granted approval by Health Canada to sell its BLG (beta-lactoglobulin) protein in Canada. This marks the fourth regulatory approval for Remilk, following endorsements from the United States, Singapore, and Israel. The company's co-founder and CTO, Dr. Ori Cohavi, emphasized that these approvals not only facilitate market expansion but also assure consumers and the industry of the product's safety and familiarity. Remilk's innovative process involves precision fermentation to produce milk protein without cows, offering environmental benefits such as reduced resource consumption and minimized methane emissions. Their product is also free from lactose, cholesterol, hormones, and antibiotics.

The approval aligns with Israel's national focus on advancing alternative proteins for food security and sustainability, as stated by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last year. Remilk, being the first to receive Health Canada's No Objection Letter for animal-identical protein, marks a significant milestone. The company's CEO, Aviv Wolff, views this development as a historic step for Canada, ushering in a new era of dairy production. Remilk aims to continue gaining global approvals, leveraging their breakthrough in creating dairy products that are not only enjoyable but also environmentally friendly and ethical.
