PotatoNL, an organization that tracks potato prices, has reported an increase in the price of French fries potatoes intended for large-scale processing in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. The current price range is 30 to 32 euros per 100 kilos, reflecting an average increase of 3.50 euros from the previous week. Prices for specific varieties like Agria, Markies, and Victoria, used in fresh fries, are now between 30 to 41 euros per 100 kilos. For fast food segments, including varieties such as Innovator, Markies, and Zorba, the price is quoted at 30 to 32 euros per 100 kilos, up by an average of 2.25 euros. Regular round chip varieties like Fontane, Ramos, and Bintje are indicated at 30 euros per 100 kilos, with the lower end of the price range moving up from 25 to 30 euros.
In the Belgian market, PCA/Fiwap quotes prices for Fontane and Challenger at 30 euros, and for Bintje at 30 to 31 euros per 100 kilos, noting that higher prices are sometimes paid for better quality batches and later deliveries. Belgapom, the umbrella organization for Belgian potato processors and traders, has described the market as fixed, suggesting a higher demand than supply with a price quote of 30 euros per 100 kilos for both Fontane and Challenger. On the EEX potato futures market in Leipzig, Germany, the price for French fries potatoes for April 2024 delivery has increased from 36.30 euros to 37.50 euros per 100 kilos, while the price for April 2025 delivery is set at 29.50 euros per 100 kilos.
