Last year, the European Union (EU) achieved its second highest volume of grain and oilseed exports in the past nine years, with exports increasing from over 2.5 million tons to 5.34 million tons. This volume was nearly a record, only surpassed in 2021 with exports of 5.63 million tons. In terms of grain exports from the EU to China, barley dominated at 72%, showing a 4.6-fold increase to 3.8 million tons. Corn exports also saw a significant rise, increasing 4.7 times to 692 thousand tons. However, wheat exports from the EU to China decreased by 47%, totaling 824,000 tons.
In the oilseeds and by-products category, European exports to China increased by 35% to 0.8 million tonnes. Sunflower semolina exports grew by 6% to 538,000 tons. The most notable increase was in rapeseed oil exports to China, which quadrupled to 113,000 tons, and sunflower seed exports rose to 108,000 tons. These products now make up 14% of the EU's export structure in this segment.
