In 2023, grain product exports from the Siberian Federal District experienced a notable increase of 28%, totaling 4.9 million tons. This marked a significant achievement despite a decrease in the harvest volume for the year. The district maintained its extensive export reach, delivering to over 50 countries and expanding its product range to nearly 100 different items. The Altai Territory emerged as a leader in this export surge, contributing 1.9 million tons, which represents a growth of 14% compared to the previous year. Despite the overall increase, the Omsk region's export levels remained consistent with those of 2022, not showing any growth.
The increase in exports was fueled by a rising global demand for Siberian grain products. Barley exports witnessed a substantial boost, reaching 584 thousand tons, with China, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan being notable markets showing positive dynamics. Rapeseed exports saw a 50% increase, primarily driven by demand from China, while pea exports doubled, reflecting the growing international demand for these products. Furthermore, the export of processed grain products like wheat flour surged by 50%, and there were notable increases in the exports of wheat bran, rapeseed cake, hulled sunflower, rapeseed meal, oatmeal, and barley groats, showcasing the diverse range of Siberian agricultural products appreciated on the global stage.
The 17th Grain Conference, held in Belokurikha, Altai Territory, served as a crucial platform for stakeholders in the Russian grain industry to discuss development strategies, exchange market information, and forge business contacts. Supported by the Altai Territory government and the Russian Federation's Ministry of Agriculture, the conference aimed at bolstering the industry's growth and addressing challenges. The Federal State Budgetary Institution "Center for Grain Quality Assessment," a subsidiary of Rosselkhoznadzor, played a key role in ensuring the quality and safety of the exported grain, operating through its extensive network of branches and testing laboratories across Russia's grain-producing regions. This concerted effort underlines the sector's commitment to maintaining high standards and expanding Russia's footprint in the global agricultural market.
