Danone Expands Oat Milk Production in Europe with New French Facility

Global dairy and food company Danone has inaugurated a plant-based food production facility in Villecomtal-sur-Arros, southwestern France. The site’s transformation into a plant-based facility marks it as a significant production center for oat-based drinks under the Alpro brand in Europe. The site is set to be the starting point for the ‘Danone Champions Tour’ relay race with over 1,000 runners on February 19.

The transformation of the Villecomtal facility into a plant-based production center took nearly two years and involved a multi-million euro capital investment. The facility, equipped with cutting-edge technology, is Danone France’s only oat-flour-to-oat-juice production site. It features two production lines, including one high-speed line, and is expected to produce over 300,000 liters of beverage per day. These products will be distributed in France and 26 other European markets, with 90% of the total production designated for export.

Danone's Villecomtal site represents the company's commitment to meeting the growing consumer demand for plant-based products. The Alpro brand currently serves 3.6 million consumers in France, with more than 20 million liters of Alpro plant-based beverages sold in the country and over 300 million across Europe. The Villecomtal facility reflects Danone's 'Renew Danone' strategy, which focuses on adapting and expanding product ranges in line with consumer trends towards healthy, diversified products.
