On January 9, 2024, Indonesia witnessed fluctuations in food ingredient prices. Premium rice prices increased by IDR 50 to IDR 15,080 per kg, while medium rice decreased by IDR 30 to IDR 13,270 per kg. Imported dry soybeans rose by IDR 60 to IDR 13,550 per kg. Shallots saw a decline of IDR 200 to IDR 38,030 per kg, garlic decreased by IDR 90 to IDR 38,610 per kg, and red cayenne pepper dropped by IDR 2,460 to IDR 62,270 per kg. Conversely, curly red chili increased by IDR 470 to IDR 51,400 per kg. Pure beef prices rose by IDR 590 to IDR 134,790 per kg, and purebred chicken meat increased by IDR 210 to IDR 35,900 per kg. Chicken eggs experienced a decrease by IDR 90 to IDR 27,880 per kg. Consumer sugar rose by IDR 10 to IDR 17,360 per kg, while bulk cooking oil fell by IDR 10 to IDR 14,720 per kg.
President Joko Widodo emphasized the importance of monitoring food prices and stocks to prevent shortages and ensure affordability. During the Plenary Cabinet Meeting in Jakarta, he assigned related ministries and institutions to closely monitor these aspects down to the district level, aiming to maintain adequate stock levels and affordable prices for the public.
