This district produces over six crore eggs daily and supplies to states like Kerala and countries such as Muscat, Qatar, and the UAE. The cost of production for eggs ranges between ₹5 to ₹5.10, leading to a loss of 30 paise per egg for poultry farmers. The Tamil Nadu Egg Poultry Farmers Marketing Society is seeking government intervention to stabilize prices and prevent them from falling below production costs. Retail prices in Salem and Namakkal districts remain at ₹6 per egg. There is hope for market recovery post-Ramzan, with calls for setting a minimum selling price to cover production costs and support the livelihood of poultry farmers in Namakkal.
