German Shipping Giant Hapag-Lloyd Commits ₹2,500 Crore Investment in Tamil Nadu's Logistics and Infrastructure Development

Tamil Nadu's government has secured a significant commitment from German container shipping company Hapag-Lloyd, with an investment of Rs 2,500 crore for the development of container terminals and logistics parks in Thoothukudi and other areas of the state. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in Spain on January 31, with Chief Minister M K Stalin and Hapag-Lloyd Managing Director Jesper Kanstrup in attendance. This investment is expected to create 1,000 job opportunities and aligns with Tamil Nadu's ambitious goal of achieving a one trillion US dollar economy by 2030, supported by the recently announced Logistics Policy 2023.

Tamil Nadu is actively focusing on infrastructure development, emphasizing container ports and logistics parks at major ports to facilitate efficient freight transport, essential for industrial growth. Chief Minister Stalin actively promoted investment opportunities within the state, resulting in Hapag-Lloyd's commitment to establish logistics facilities in Tamil Nadu. Furthermore, discussions with Abertis, a road infrastructure development company, highlighted the potential for further investments in state highway infrastructure, emphasizing Tamil Nadu's commitment to promoting industrial development through enhanced transportation networks.
