Major sugar refineries in Nigeria, including Dangote Sugar Refinery, BUA Sugar Refinery, and others, have pledged to maintain stable sugar prices throughout the Ramadan period, demonstrating the federal government's dedication to food security and economic stability. The Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, affirmed this commitment during her visits to prominent sugar producers. She assured that there would be no price increase during Ramadan, aligning with the economic objectives outlined in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's 8-Point Agenda, aiming for predictability and confidence in the economy.
While acknowledging the sugar industry's crucial role in economic stability, the minister emphasized the need for high-quality production. During her visit to Golden Sugar Company, she highlighted that any subpar performance in the sugar master plan would not be acceptable. The collaboration between the government and the private sector in ensuring price stability during Ramadan is seen as a positive step towards national economic development. The commitment by sugar refineries, backed by government resolve, reflects a concerted effort to achieve common economic goals.
