Carrefour Drops PepsiCo Products from Shelves in France, Citing Cost Concerns

Carrefour is informing customers that it will no longer carry PepsiCo products like Pepsi, Lay's chips, and 7UP in its French stores due to what it deems as unacceptable price increases. Starting Thursday, Carrefour shelves with PepsiCo items will display a note explaining the decision.

While it remains uncertain if existing PepsiCo products on Carrefour's shelves will be withdrawn, the move is part of a trend where retailers globally resist price hikes from food giants.

Carrefour has previously challenged consumer goods companies with initiatives like a ""shrinkflation"" campaign. This action aligns with France's efforts to curb inflation, urging retailers and suppliers to conclude annual price negotiations sooner.

The French government has hinted at special taxes on food companies if they don't pass on cost reductions to consumers amid rising prices.
